The BRIEF-P Rating Forms (Package of 25) are standardized assessment tools designed to evaluate executive functioning in preschool-aged children, specifically those aged 2 to 5 years and 11 months. Developed by Gerard A. Gioia, Ph.D., Kimberly Andrews Espy, Ph.D., and Peter K. Isquith, Ph.D., this instrument enables parents, teachers, and daycare providers to assess a child’s executive functions within the context of their everyday environments—home and preschool.

The BRIEF-P consists of a single rating form that includes 63 items measuring various aspects of executive functioning: Inhibit, Shift, Emotional Control, Working Memory, and Plan/Organize. These clinical scales form three broad indexes: Inhibitory Self-Control, Flexibility, and Emergent Metacognition, along with one composite score, the Global Executive Composite. Additionally, the form provides two validity scales: Inconsistency and Negativity.

This tool is particularly useful for assessing preschool-aged children with medical, acquired neurological, and developmental conditions such as prematurity, emerging learning disabilities, attention disorders, language disorders, traumatic brain injuries, lead exposure, and pervasive developmental disorders/autism.
