Phonological and Print Awareness Scale

The PPA Scale is a reliable, Level B assessment designed to measure early literacy skills in children aged 4 to 8 years 11 months, focusing on phonological awareness (rhyming, initial/final sounds, phonemic segmentation) and print awareness (letter and print conventions). Administered orally via an easel stimulus book, the receptive multiple-choice format makes it suitable for children with speech or expressive difficulties.

Available in three parallel forms (A, B, C), each with its own easel to track progress and minimize practice effects over time. Standardized on over 1,100 U.S. children and shown to effectively differentiate typical and at-risk readers.
